First of all, it took some time to get one of these Stetson Marshalls as they have been out of stock. Unfortunately, that only made me want one more. Then a few days ago, a little voice told me to check Amazon again, and lo and behold, they had some in stock!I immediately ordered one, and delivery was quick (thanks Outland USA!). I just unboxed it and here are a few observations, as compared to the Stetson Rancher 6X I have...First, it is an extremely close copy to the one Raylan Givens wears in 'Justified.' There are YouTube videos explaining there were actually numerous hats worn during the show, but the Marshall was one of them and especially featured in the series finale (no spoilers!).But the primary hat Raylan Givens (Timothy Olyphant) wears is a hand-modified Stetson 6x beaver with a basket weave embossed leather hat band, with a 3-piece buckle set. Expect to pay $600-700 for a real copy, so I am happy with this replica.Like the original, it has a 4" brim with a 4 1/4" cattleman crown and is finished off with a tooled leather hat band that features a three piece buckle set as well. The only thing is it's a 4X.Now, what does that mean? Well, I compared it to my Stetson Rancher 6X, and there's a noticeable difference in the texture of the hat. The Rancher is a lot smoother than the Marshall, which feels a little rough in comparison. Does that really matter? Not really, as my Rancher is more of a "dress" hat and this Marshall a "daily wear" hat.Otherwise, the new hat is a tad tighter than the worn Rancher, so I hope it will loosen up a little with wear. It’s not tight, just snug. Most importantly, it looks great! Now, it is shaped like a traditional cowboy hat with the outer brim bent up slightly. Givens wears his brim flat and turned down dip in the front and back. If you want that style, you’ll have to steam it into that flat or low shape. Both have the same (correct) Cattleman crowns. The band looks correct as well. So, is it worth it? I think so. It’s a Stetson so it’s handmade in Garland, Texas. It looks great and those familiar with the ‘Justified’ TV series (original or the new City Primeval versions) will immediately recognize it. While a little coarser than the Rancher I have, it’s well made and of high quality material. I am sure it will outlast me, and maybe even whoever inherits it next.Just be sure if you’re unaware of how to properly care for and/or store a quality cowboy hat to search the Internet for information. It’s important to do so to maintain the shape of the hat.Outside that, treat yourself to a great hat and look forward to many years of enjoyable wear!
